British Literature II: The Twentieth Century
Also offered at the Honors level:
British Literature II concerns itself with the twentieth century and the transformations of certain literary foundations such as the hero and traditional forms of plot construction. There is an assumption that students have a familiarity with key terms and concepts from their Sophomore English and History courses or another seminar class. The main purpose of the course is to intensively study pieces from the Modernist Period, World War II, and the Postmodern Era. The course texts provide the students a means with which to explore the changes and upheavals in British Literature as influenced by the century's historical, philosophical, and artistic influences. While assignments will take many forms, there is a key component requiring students to regularly post to a class blog. Typical posts will include their analyses, reactions to texts, and commenting on others' insights. Most articles will either be read online or acquired through the specified folder in First Class.
