Dassa has taught Israeli folk dance in Los Angeles for the past 30 years.
His resume includes a multitude of Jewish organizations and synagogues.
For the past 20 years, David has run the largest Israeli folk dance
evenings in the United States, and also directs the largest Israeli dance
camps in the world. He has conducted many master workshops in Europe and
throughout the United States and continues to lead very exciting evenings
every Sunday at the Calabasas/Agoura community center in Calabasas and on
Wednesday evenings at Wilshire Boulevard Temple in Los Angeles. David
also choreographed several biblical dance scenes for the Dreamworks film,
“The Prince of Egypt”.
David has been teaching dance at Milken Community High School in Los
Angeles since 1997 and at New Community Jewish High School from 2002-2007.
In June 2004, David joined Wilshire Boulevard Temple as the Director of
Dance for both its Jewish Day School, Camp Hess Kramer and Gindling
Hilltop Camp. Prior to joining Wilshire Boule Temple, David was the
Director of Dance at the Brandeis-Bardin Institute for fifteen years, and
was on staff teaching dance at Brandeis for over twenty seven years. Last
year David joined the teaching staff at Stephen Wise Elementary school.
David is also the founder of the Los Angeles Israeli Dance Company, which
is comprised of high school students from Los Angeles area high schools
(both Jewish and secular). The Company has performed in Boston’s Annual
Israel Folkdance Festival at M.I.T. in Cambridge, Msachusetts, the
Venetian Hotel, half time of the Los Angeles Clippers basketball game
(twice), and for four years running is the opening act on the main stage
at the annual Israeli Festival at Woodley Park commemorating Israel’s
Independence Day (Los Angeles’ largest Israel Independence Day
festival). In March 2007, the Team performed and competed in the finals
at Festival Aviv in Mexico City, one of the largest Israeli folk dance
festivals in the world. This year we have been invited to preform on tin
Israel.
