Ms. Esty Gross
Ms. Esty Gross received her B.A. in English Linguistics and a teaching credential in teaching English-as-a-second-language with honors from Bar Ilan University. She received her Master’s in Management and Leadership in Education with honors from Tel- Aviv University. Her thesis on identity and language among remigrating adolescents from the former USSR was presented at the International Symposium on Bilingualism at Utrecht University in the Netherlands and at the Literacy & Language Convention at Haifa University in Israel.
Ms. Gross served as a Hebrew Educational Consultant for the innovative Hebrew teaching initiative, NETA in various Jewish Day schools across the US, the former USSR and Australia. As part of her mentoring role, Ms. Gross trained new and veteran Hebrew teachers on the principles and didactics of teaching Hebrew-as-a-second-language at the Hebrew College in Boston. As a past Hebrew department chair at Milken Community High School and as the Director of Hebrew K-12, Ms. Gross is delighted to be the Director of Hebrew Studies, 7-12.
Ms. Gross strives to advance effective teaching practices and optimize individual student achievements in Hebrew language learning while seeking to create a smooth transition throughout the SSW Schools. She is driven by the belief that mastery of Hebrew will promote students’ understanding of their history, culture and tradition, excite them about life-long Jewish learning, and foster a sense of belonging to the Jewish people and the State of Israel.
